About the event
A TRIP Through the Unknown: Spotlight on Hallucinogens
QoC Partner Workshop with Steve Keller & Sarah Kheman, Drug Free Kids Canada
Course Description
In recent years, researchers have begun to explore the potential use of hallucinogenic drugs in mental health treatment. This new attention has contributed to a rise in the popularity of drugs like LSD, MDMA, magic mushrooms and ketamine. Beyond clinical trials, these substances have seen a growth in use for self-medicating, curious experimentation and recreational use across Canada.
Join us as we explore the growing world of hallucinogens. Together, we will examine how each individual drug impacts various regions of the brain, as well as their impact on overall adolescent health. We’ll consider the current research into these substances, debunk myths and highlight the potential risks of hallucinogen use. This workshop will help prepare adults involved in youths’ lives to have difficult conversations about substance use with kids, teens and young adults.
Please note that this presentation is intended to serve as a checkpoint in our knowledge, as many new reports and studies into hallucinogens continue to emerge. DFK will continue to monitor this situation in consultation with our advisory committee and with partners across Canada to update this presentation accordingly.
